Fresher. The Musical is an infectious ride through the excitement, fear and awkwardness of setting out on what should, apparently, be ‘the best years of your life’. Five new students sing, cry, laugh, support and squabble their way through Freshers entertainments as they deal with how others see them and their own expectations of themselves.

The book, by Sally Torode, is a treat as well, laced with some pin-sharp observational humour. Posh boy Rupert's toe-curling attempts to sound street are a particular highlight. Mix in a couple of delectable duets, in which one character continues their half of aconversation while the other suddenly starts singing their innermost thoughts over the top,and you have all the makings of a real Fringe hit - and a show that runs the risk of giving musicals with silly, attention-grabbing titles a good name.
